Let's cast a light on the brilliantly colourful Azul! You may have seen this on the shelves in the store recently, well... let me tell you all about it, it could be for you!
Why should you be checking it out?
First off, if you take reviews seriously, Azul is a game you should probably already own! It's only been out a couple of weeks and has grabbed an overall rank of 593 and an average rating of 7.81 on Boardgame Geek. It's sitting at position 4 in the 'hotness chart' as I write this.
The game is designed by an award winner (he's won Spiel des Jahres twice) - Michael Kiesling.
Azul is a game with pedigree.
Also, it's undeniably very pretty!
What's the game about?
Introduced by the Moors,
Azul is a set collection and pattern building game. Players take turns drafting coloured tiles from suppliers to their player board and then score points based on how they've placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player's score. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Who is it for?
Azul is a game for 2 -4 players and is really family friendly. The suggested age is 8+. Games are quick, 30 - 40 minutes so there's a lot of the "just another go" factor at play here.
